We've been restocked...

And the pantry has been replenished :-)
I've been feeding roughly 75% raw (most recently a mixture of Oma's Pride, Primal and VT Raw) and 25% dehydrated pre-mix or dehydrated "raw". Sometimes Sojo's grain free pre-mix, sometimes Sojo's Complete, sometimes Honest Kitchen Keen. I make the choice of mixed based on things like "did I remember to soak some Sojo's overnight?" and "how much thawed raw food do I have?" or "exactly how frozen is that brick of tripe?" Honest Kitchen is so easy - five minutes from box to tummy. Zero planning - scoop and stir. Feeding Sojos can take a bit of planning (as does feeding raw actually). Sojos should rehydrate at least an hour - but eight is better - a 5lb tube of ground raw takes well over 24 hours to thaw to the point where I can cut it into pieces (to load into tupperware containers) and in the fridge about 36 hours to soft enough to feed - which is why I often finish the "thaw" on my counter top so the boys are eating food that's reasonably close to room temperature...More on that in just a second....

When we're on the road they're still eating exclusively Honest Kitchen Embark...It's palatable, easily digested, easy to rehydrate and the dog's consistently eat it well - though not usually a problem for goldens....Anyhow - we were out of everything - empty doggie pantry. Our friend Katie had placed an order with her distributor and we got in on the order, but it took us a few weeks to get a pickup....

As I posted on our facebook page:
We used the last of our Sojos with breakfast Thursday morning with our green tripe, the last of our Keen last night with dinner (Keen plus Misty Knolls Turkey backs) and the last of our Embark with our breakfast this morning...the cabinet was getting pretty lean. We're VERY happy to report that our pantry has been re-stocked and you guys can cancel that call to the ASPCA.

A golden pile....Murph on the bottom, Q curled into Murphy's
shoulder, Woo "breathing" on Q and using Murph's ribcage
as a pillow. Q looks pleased doesn't he?
"Stop touching me" - "I'm not touching you"
Coupled with the many chunks of frozen ground turkey, chicken, sardine and green tripe the goldens are VERY happy that their pantry has been re-stocked....I think they'll be able to sleep soundly tonight...Here are the boys with visions of turkey-plums dancing in their heads....

Oh and about thawing raw dog food (turkey) on the counter...if the question is "How much raw dog food can one 7lb kitty consume in approximately three hours?" The answer is about 3/4 lb.

Happy (STARVING) cat purging off the dog's dinner....Yummy Misty Knoll Farm ground turkey....BAD KITTY. Kitty who eats crappy Science Diet prescription food because he gets bladder stones and refuses to eat anything else...Kitty who has been offered his own raw food (and The Honest Kitchen's Prowl) and turned his nose up at those too? Yes. That Kitty helping himself to doggy dinner while I was out teaching Thursday evening. He DID leave the unmentionable turkey "chunks" that I prefer remain hidden in the middle of the grind though - so that's something....{{SIGH}}
