Busy Sunday!

It was a busy Sunday around here for me - and a day "off" for the dogs...It was a lovely spring day - lower 80's, brillant sunshine and a touch of the impending summertime New England humidity. The dogs really aren't used to this weather yet so it was just as well that they had a planned day off anyway.

The garden plot got started today - it's about half-way setup, a BUNCH of seeds in the ground. It's still early yet for planting in Northern VT but we decided to plant now and if necessary we'll just purchase seedlings at Agway around memorial day. So far (knocking on wood) we haven't had a hard freeze since the beginning of April - yes a foot of snow - but even then the temperature never dropped below 35. So in addition to lettuce, spinach, peas, green and waxed beans and herbs we rolled the dice and also put in cucumbers, summer squash, zucchini, watermelon, green, red and yellow peppers and broccoli. WHEW!!! We also planted a bunch of Dahlias that a fellow gardener gave us. I threw in a bunch of marigold seeds as well as the marigolds seem to help keep the bugs away. We've got another half-day of labor to get the rest of the mounds in place for the eggplant and the rest of the squash - and another 10-15 packets of the randoms to get into the ground....

Holy Cow - that's a lot of garden real estate!!

Here's what it looked like after we quit for the day:

Carrots and radishes:

Squashies and cukes in the mounds - herbs and lettuces around the edges.

And then there's Q - the most un-catlike feline I've ever met. He doesn't even sleep like a cat! He was skulking around watching birds (from his comfy bed in the bay window):

After the work at the garden plot I came home and started the process to open the pool! I can't wait to get the boys swimming again!
